Subject: my father is an alumni of st. agnes
Greetings,
My father, George Fox and his brother, Arthur ("Junior" or "Knobby")
Fox lived at St. Agnes from 1935 until 1944. My father joined the
Navy at 16 and his brother graduated at 18.
My grandmother's best friend was a nun at St. Agnes, Sr. Bernadine.
When my grandmother died in 1935, my grandfather was unable to care
for the boys and placed them at St. Agnes in her care.
I remember going to the reunions with my parents when I was little
and my father lovingly referring to St. Agnes as "the dive". I am
sure that my parents went to the 50th anniversary reunion because I
have the picture of the convent that is on the website.
My father is quite ill now. His brother is deceased, as is my
mother. The next time I see my father, I will show him the pictures
from the website. It might make him smile as he remembers how many
times he ran away from the home, back to NYC to be with his aunt and
cousins, even at a very young age.
I am not sure if you or anyone else remembers my father or his
brother. My father played football for St. Agnes and was in the
school band (tuba player). It would be nice to hear from you or
anyone else who remembers my dad, so that I can pass this information
on to him.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Kelli Fox

Dear David,
Thank you for your response to my email. Yes, I would appreciate it if you would post my email. Perhaps someone else will read it who knew my dad.
I read the "house Kids" list after I sent the email and saw my dad's name on the list. I think the year he left was 1942, as that would have been the year he turned 16 and joined the navy. I know that he did not enter St. Agnes until 1935, as that is the year of his mother's death.
I am not sure if my father receives the newsletter. I will ask him next time I see him.
Thank you, again.
Peace,
Kelli

Hi Kelli:
I was pleased to see your letter to our esteemed web site.
While I do not recall your Dad because I didn't arrive at St. Agnes until mid-1944 after graduating from St. Dominic's in 1944. I would bet my older Brother George probably knew him as he was there from January 1942 until he "went AWOL" and joined the Navy at 17, and unfortunately was killed in action at 19 while serving in the Navy in WWII.
When you mentioned your Dad may have been at our 50th Reunion a bell went off in my head that perhaps you could print out a copy of our story with pictures about that from the web site. Here is the URL for it, http://www.stagnesalumni.org/StoriesGFMsRemarksStAAA50thAnniv061505.shtml and if you need help, perhaps David could give you some advice:
I'm sorry to hear your Dad is not in good health and hope that he at least remains stable and improves as well.
Sincerely,
Gerald F. (Jerry) Merna
