Feliciano Sent: Wednesday, February 14, 2007 11:28 AM Subject: Re: saint agnes alumni 71-80 Hi David, i just wanted to mention dates that i lived at saint agnes. I remember seeing the demolition pictures in the Journal News Paper... of the tall chimney stack crashing down.. maybe you could research the journal news for old pictures or articles of saint agnes. the chimney stack was part of the giant boiler room, that was next to the infirmary and the little flower cottage..do you remenber the glass enclosure pathway that conected the big house and the church... my specific dates at saint agnes were june of 71 to dec. 75..... for a few months before saint agnes, i was at children center "cc".... between 104-105 streets and fith ave. now its a museum... go figure that, only if those walls.... only a few month ago, i passed by there on my way to road runners club... experienced major flash backs.. a feeling of sadness and abandonment.... my brother edwin ran away from there... he came back for me... his little brother, he asked me to go with him, i decided to stay....because there was no food in the house "apartment"..... god's will his master plan in my life.. god has a good sense of humor....he says those who would be last will be first into his kingdom... in dec. of 75 i left saint agnes for the nanuet group... the group home parents were mike and kris theleton... for some odd reason i completed the eight grade at agnes.. they drove me to sparkill... around that time there were big changes at saint agnes.. major down sizing.. sport programs, marching band and special trips.. cut. i aways enjoyed my summers at the home, the color wars, the blue and gold teams, that was big time school spirit.. the scavenger hunts.... Dave do you remember the train track south of route 304.. you could walk to sparkill village in one direction or walk to orangeburg..... i think it's route 340 not 304... they would lead us to route 303.... my nick name was swamp.... at saint agnes that's were i leanered how to swim ....i was always in the swamp.. in back of the fields, do you remember them?....spring, summer, catching snalls, frogs, turtles and insects... no roaches... once i was ice skating in the swamp.... and fell through the ice.... thank god... it was about three feet deep.. i smelled like crap.. because of the organic.... by time i walked back to the house my pants froze.... i also went sleding on two hills on the left side of cementary... i was always out side... some times after dinner we would go outside and throw snow balls at cars on route 340.... the drivers would stop.... and chase us.. that was fun...and scary.... Dave do you remember the showers down in the basement... those two large round sinks... you had to press with you feet to get water to wash hands...and the toilets.. too may to count. they had the barbershop, the library, the marching band, the winter coat room.. and the laudry room down in the basement..... Dave do you remenber the "ref" where we ate...to me it looked like it was a large room with many partitions..... the room was painted blue.... at the south end of the room there was a statue of mother mary..... maybe it was the same when you were there.... also on the last floor near the roof was a recreation room... with pool tables, tv set... ok.... for now.. i will be mailing some pictures around march... by the way, did you complete the 2006 nyc marathon???? sincerely, Eugene "Swamp" Sostre. |
